The boring part of writing Empty The boring part of writing

I spent the weekend rewriting 20 chapters of Ethan. I have two editors (on paid, one volunteer) copies of my manuscript, going over it letter by letter. Clarifying, correcting punctuation, rewriting bits and pieces. So tedious. Wish I were one of those writers who gets it the first time around.

I only have 33 chapters more to do. Crying or Very sad

I wouldn't describe that as boring, but since I have not personally experienced the process, I guess it could be. You should look at it a bit differently though. This just means you book is going to be better and it's alsomost published. Very Happy

No, its far from almost published. This is editing from someone I hired (got the friendship discount) and my daughter (with her English degree) tediously going chapter by chapter, fixing inconsistencies they caught, misplaced commas, etc. THEN, I will start looking for agents/publishers.

But since this has been a 15 work-in-progress I hope I am a lot closer than I was.

I hear ya, Donnalee. It seems that I will never finish my book. I keep writing and writing but I cannot stop myself from going back and rewriting. I wouldn't call it boring exactly but it can get tedious. When I find myself saying to myself, "Huh?" more than three or four times in an hour, I take a break.

I know I should just keep writing and leave the rewriting for later when it's done but habits are so hard to break. I am a die-hard self-editing fool.

Oh yeah, Mo, you gotta stop that or you'll never git'er done. If it had not been for my writer's group I would still not be finished this first/last draft of Lovin' Ethan. I may still have a little rewriting to do before it's over, but I have the story down. When I am done with this editing round I am going to start shopping it unless I stubble into a big hole and am absolutely forced to re-write.
