Photoshoot On Saturday
I had a photoshoot on Saturday that went so danged well that I impressed myself. Weather was excellent, had a very good turn out for models and best of all, made some new friends and got some great images.
Wow! Maybe I need to take a deep breath? Naw... there will be plenty of time for breathing when I'm dead. lol

That's just how we artist types are.
How do the photo shoots work? Is it a club or organization that plans them? Do a bunch of you go in to pay the models, etc?
I am thinking maybe my local arts council could organize something like that.

Nope, not a club or anything. It's actually pretty amazing that we can organize anything. lol We are not a formal club nor do we have a set core bunch that really likes to do this anthey are usually the ones you will see at nearly every shoot. We're just a group of like minded folks.
Basically if someone has an idee they express it to the group and see how the group likes it, if more than a few like it, then the person who came up with the idea gets suckered... I mean volunteered to host the meet if they can find a location. Usually then everyone chips in either by bringing a model, wardrobe specialist, Make up artists or equipment to the shoot. Then a date and time is set up, and everyone shows up. Usually we don't have many models but the last few meet ups we've been getting a pretty good turn out.
This was the first time I had to charge for a meet up as the train wasn't going to run without being paid. It was worth it and I may do another shoot just for me and a few models. I am also working on an idea for body painting. This one will probably be a little more exspensive so i may not get to do it. Would be cool for some excellent photos though.
I don't see why a council couldn't do something like that. Even if it's not a photographic thing, I think it still would be pretty cool. If you need any advice or anything, let me know and I'll do what I can.

Re: Photoshoot On Saturday
That is very cool. I have a friend who was a model and a photographer's stylist in her younger days. She is teaching me some things and letting me photograph her. There is a log cabin here on the farm and we plan to do something with it as a background and her dressed in "pioneer garb."
I am going to get back to that light box this winter, too. I just can't seem to get the white background, its either blue or pinkish. I haven't messed with it in a while. Seems like a good winter project.

Sounds pretty cool. I wish I had a cabin... and a farm. lol
With your soft box, not sure about the pink, but if the background is blue I suspect you don't have powerful enough lights, that's whay the the soft box isn't turning white. I'll double check with some friends if you want. A good cheap way to improve lights is those work shop lights at wall mart, put in a 70 to 100 watt bulb and you should be good to go. Getting a pure white background is difficult even for pros but once you realize what you need, it's easy.

I have the Walmart work lights. I read somewhere about what bulbs to use - daytime or daylight? Need to check and see what kind I have. I've tried several kinds. I am beginning to think my camera doesn't have a good enough white balance range. I am open to any and all suggestions. I like the blue pics fo some of my subjects, ie sea glass bottles. But I want to do that on purpose and also learn get the white background.
Re: Photoshoot On Saturday
Blubs rated daylight should be fine, I have the worklights also though I need to dust them off. I use 150 watt daylight bulbs in them. They are a bit bright but you can control that by moving them closer or further away from your light box.
I didn't think about white balance. You could be right that your camera may have issues. There is a way to set custom white balances but you'll have to check your camera's owners manual to see if that is something your camera supports.
You can get software to help but the software is expensive.
Table top/product photography is my favorite type of photography, I really need to do more of it.
