I must be getting old!
I've had my Sony DSLR for about a year and today I found the dial to change my f-stops! When all else fails read the darn instruction book!
So, I am back to playing with the light box. Next problem, I can't get my flash attachment off my camera. The release button is not releasing. I give up, going for a walk. Taking my P&S, leaving the "good camera" home!

Your not getting old, things just aren't working like they used to work.
I am not familiar with the Sony and/or it's flashes but the one time I had my flash stuck, I was turning the release knob the wrong way.

That's not good 'cos the next step involves a hammer.

Does your flash sit in the hot shoe? If it does, then there should be something near the bottom of the flash that allows you to tighten or loosen the flash. What brand/model of flash is it? I might be able to give you some long distance tips... without using a hammer.

It is a Vivitar 728AFM. I have had it on and off before. There is what is supposed to be a button in the front, but it does work.

I don't know what to tell you other than take the camera to a camera shop and see if they can do something with it.

Yea! I got the flash attachment off today. Used wiggle and force. And now that its off I can see the release button is not working. So, I will not try putting it back on. Guess a new flash will be added to my want list.
Re: I must be getting old!
Glad to hear you finally got it off. I know your in a bit of a bind right now without a car, but if you save some money, you can still use the flash. You'll have to get a device to wirelessly trigger it, or even a hot shoe extension would work.
The cheapest way is to get what is called a peanut. It can attact to your flash and if your camera has a pop up flash you can use it to trigger this flash.
Yeah, I'm into this stuff pretty deep. Maybe one of these days I'll photograph my setup so you can see what i usually use.
Anyways, glad to hear you got the flash off.

Re: I must be getting old!
yep, the old car is being towed to the junk yard today. Of course, since I don't have wheels I am thinking of dozens of places I want to go and photograph. And we're getting some spring-like weather this week. About time! So I am itching to get out and about.
Kind of hard to go car shopping without transportation, LOL. Things will work out. just not as fast as I'd like.
I will check out the gadgets for my flash. Thanks for the tips. The guys on the Photography Board say my problem of soft pics is I don't have good enough lens, so I am thinking about that, too. Mean while the art projects are keeping me occupied and do not require my photos be super sharp since it is going to resemble watercolors - I hope.
